ILLUSTRATION: Bicycles may not get you there as fast as some other conveyances, but you'll experience more along the way. This pencil drawing can tell a different story to whoever will listen.

Original pencil sketch
Straight out of my notebook, step one was to scan this sketch.

Coloring, version 1
The scanned image was opened in photoshop, and then placed in Illustrator over a scanned page from a vintage book. Next, it was colored to match my childhood bike — the one I rode to Duniway Elementary in SE Portland, Oregon.

Added wisdom
I loved this quote and added it to this version with the bike colored red.

The sky is the limit...
A whimsical background is added to this version of the illustration, urging the viewer to ride on to reach their full potential.

Just in case you are interested, my bicycle credentials go back to when I was 20 and worked in NW Portland as a Bicycle Delivery Girl for Peter's Office Supply on NW 9th and Flanders — those were the days!
